27 May 2010 - Metro Washington DC

Nine cyclists started out from Gallaudet University, glided through the National Mall and Georgetown, and then continued on the C & O Canal to an overlook at Great Falls to savor the view. After a quick ride down MacArthur Boulevard back to DC, the group made it back to DC in time to enjoy the annual Memorial Day weekend Rolling Thunder motorcycle procession through the National Mall area. It was an awe-inspiring sight, and the group lingered to capture as much of the moment as possible.

While it was a wonderful ride for most, it is also important to share two cyclists’ experience. They did not bring spare tubes, tire repair kits, or tools, and when they got flats, they could not fix them. They ended up having to walk several miles to reach the nearest Metro station, and missed the festivities on the National Mall. Another cyclist also left the ride to help one of those with flat tires.  Please keep in mind that it is important to always be prepared with a spare tube, patch kit, and tools.
