On July 26, 2015, thirteen riders (or 12 ½ as Ralph is towing her daughter, Sophia!) have joined us to celebrate dVELO's 10th Birthday Ride. We enjoyed about 40 miles (64 kilometer) round trip ride from Gallaudet University, Washington DC to George Washington's home at Mount Vernon, VA. We have passed through world famous US Capitol, Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, and go across Potomac River on 14 th Street (I-395) Bridge to Mt. Vernon Trail to Gravelly Point to see planes landing and takeoff the Reagan National Airport (DCA). We continue to Old Town, Alexandria then made a brief detour to see the original DC South Post by the historic Jones Point Lighthouse near where the I-495 Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge is. For more information about historic DC border: http://boundarystones.org. We finally catch up with Ralph who worked hard towing Sophia and his son Ryland riding along him. We arrived at George Washington's Mount Vernon for a brief rest with snacks and drinks also celebrate the birth of dVELO there. After that, we split to different groups based on our riding speed back to Gallaudet University. It was hot and humid day but we are experiencing cool feeling due to Potomac River’s breezy effect and Mt Vernon Trail is mostly under a lot of trees!
