Since its inception in 2005, dVELO has asked members to make annual $5 contributions to maintain their membership. Since dVELO does not have a treasury, these contributions are directed to a non-profit organization.
For 2012, dVELO is passing along members’ $5 contributions to the Abused Deaf Women’s Advocacy Service (ADWAS). ADWAS provides comprehensive services to Deaf and Deaf-Blind victims/survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and stalking. The annual ride through the five boroughs of New York City sponsored by Bike New York sold out just 36 hours after registration opened in 2011, leaving many cyclists disappointed. The dVELO members who registered quickly enough had a wonderful time, as you can see from the photos of last year’s ride.
To ensure a spot in this year’s ride, dVELO encourages you to sign up for Bike New York’s e-mail distribution list. As soon as you receive notification that registration is open for this year’s Five Borough Ride, don’t wait! Register immediately!
As always, dVELO will obtain passes for deaf dVELO members who have registered for the Five Borough Ride to start in a special section near the front. Members must have completed all membership requirements in order to receive their passes.
In 2011, dVELO membership reached 75, the highest number since its founding in July 2005. Many thanks to all the 2011 members for their support.
dVELO’s goal for 2012 is to surpass the 2011 roster of 75 members. Join us and help us to make it happen!

The SK SKIVELA team sent four deaf to race at Lime Carpathian mountains where they rode on ridge border with Slovakia. The race organizer set varied categories – thier result: 1. Studýnka, 2. Pastrnek, 3. Vrána, 4. Chupík. Overall including more than 100 hearing mountain cyclists competed, their results: 16. Studýnka, 17 Pastrnek, 50. Vrána, 77. Chupík.
