2012 Biking with the Gallaudet President a Success!

This year’s riding with the Gallaudet President Hurwitz was an even greater success than last year. This was due to the total biking mileage being increased to include even more of Washington DC landmarks. There were plenty of photos and videos taken of this event, so it serves no justice to write more in details about it as you could just view the slides. Enjoy!

Special thanks to Beverly Buchanan, Ralph Fernandez, Vicki Shank, and Matthew Vita for contributing their photos of the ride.

Bikeshare Station on Campus!

One year ago, Gallaudet University was in negotiations with the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) to secure a Bikeshare station on its campus. At that time, no college in the USA had a public bike station on its campus. When the DDOT held a hearing regarding the Capital Bikeshare expansion on May 25, 2011, around ten out of 50 attendees were deaf and/or members of the Gallaudet community. That strong participation rate must have made a difference, because Gallaudet was awarded a station as part of the expansion.

Gallaudet announced in its latest construction update that one of the DDOT’s newest Capital Bikeshare stations will be located on campus at the east side of the 8th Street and Florida Avenue NE campus entry. The station is anticipated for completion late summer 2012.

dVELO thanks Gallaudet for its commitment to bringing the station to campus.
