Bike Maintenance = Bike Smarts
The better your bike works, the better your ride will be
Keep Tires Pumped Up
Over- or under-inflated tires increase the chances of a flat
Fix a Flat
Take a class or read up online, practice at home so you know you can do it
Be prepared
Pack a spare tire, bike tool, tire levers, patch kit and a hand pump in a small bag – and don’t leave home without it
Brakes
Test them before you leave – wheels shouldn’t move at all with the brake applied
Brake Pads
Pad thinner than 1/8 inches need to be replaced
A Lubed Chain is a Happy Chain
Wipe off the gunk before you lube and wipe off the excess lube after
Chainrings and cogs
Teeth should be flat on top – if you see points, consider new parts
